I have cast my vote on the Bord Gais Energy Book Shop of the Year site and The Company of Books gets my number one. Good luck ladies. You deserve the accolade for your hard work, enthusiasm and the wonderful quality of books that sit upon the shelves.

  • Juno's Paycock:

Just watched back your book club spot on TV3. Very interesting comments but maybe a bit hard on poor old Sebastian Barry who I think is going to win the Booker. The shop looks great. It’s not really near where I live or work unfortunately, but I’ll make a point of visiting one day soon.

  • Sorcha Hill:

I love this wonderful shop in Ranelagh. An eclectic mix and a great place to spend an afternoon browsing. Their children’s books are very good and clearly show that the proprietors put a lot of thought into the selection process as there is something to suit toddlers and teens. I’ve always received a warm welcome and great recommendations anytime I visit and long may your success continue.

I find myself travelling quite a distance just to visit The Company of Books as I just don’t find what I’m looking for in the vicinity where I live. The staff always have something intelligent to offer on the subject of literature and one can always have a good chat and get suitable recommendations. Ranelagh is lucky to have such a great bookshop on its doorstep. I highly recommend it!

  • An excellent addition to Ranelagh! We’ve recommended you in our blog here – http://www.sccenglish.ie/2010/08/company-of-books.html.

It’s so great to have a bookshop in Ranelagh at long last!!! Love the shopfront and choice of books. Everything is so beautifully presented. Well done you guys.

  • Anne:

Thanks for the lovely comments, Eva. We’ll do our best to keep up with your voracious reading appetite!

  • Eva Black:

I want to congratulate the proprietors of The Company of Books for having the insight and courage to establish this great shop in the heart of Ranelagh. Never has there been more need for a local book shop in these times when one just wants to forget about their own life and immerse oneself in fact or fiction without the hassle of trekking to the city.

I was very impressed with the eclectic mix of books on offer. I usually frequent the establishment once or twice a week and have never come away without a purchase, such is the variety. The staff are always helpful, insightful and cheery, customer service as it should be.

I was in Paris recently and visited the Shakespeare & Co book shop (once run by Sylvia Beach but at its current address, it is not the original shop that was frequented by Joyce and Hemingway) and I could not find the particular tome I wanted – Charles Glass’s Americans in Paris but to my delight, upon my return home, I found it in The Company of Books. Now, I can re-live my time in Paris whilst reading about the Occupation, thanks to a most wonderful shop on my doorstep.

Keep up the good work girls!

  • Gwen:

Now I can get back to reading books, hurrah!

  • Anne:

Would just like to publicly take this opportunity to thank my colleague Gwen for taking the time to teach herself web design in order to create this site for us. All those late nights and black-eyed days have paid off!
